When is the next BTCS? Sunday 11th September 2011
Back to Church Sunday is simple, it's about a friend inviting a friend back to church.
Most of us know people who used to go to church but for a variety of reasons they have stopped going. Feedback we have received suggests that many of these people would be open to an invitation to return. Last year one couple who invited their adult children and families commented, 'the research is right. Our daughter said, "I've been thinking about coming back to church."
Although many Christians find it hard to share their faith, it is much easier to do so when they are talking to someone who already has some experience of church. Two surveys carried out in Australia in 2009 came up with some interesting results: 68% of Australians say that they are Christians (McCrindle), 49% of Australians think that Jesus was the most important figure in history, 72% think he was a 'good influence on the world'. Even amongst non-Christians 22% consider Jesus to be history's most important figure and 32% consider Him to be the "Son of God' (Centre for Public Christianity).
Through the provision of resources and training, Back to Church Sunday aims to help equip local churches and their members to welcome those who are important to them back to church.
There is something on this site for everyone, so whether you are a Regional Champion, from a church and an individual wanting to come back to church, just click on what you are interested in to find out more.
Here's some feedback from last year's BTCS:
‘Many people commented on how welcomed they felt and how much church had changed for the positive over last time they came.'
'A fourteen year old invited several members of her family. Eight members of her family attended.'
The most successful aspect of BTCS was..'seeing the faces of the congregational members when their invited guests attended - very proud and pleased.'
